New Regents Canal Bridge
On the 14th January the first of 13 bridge beams was laid across the ice covered Regents Canal. This slim and elegant bridge will be the main connection from King's Cross and St Pancras stations in the south to the University of the Arts and all future buildings in the north of this huge development by Argent.
A 500 ton crane was used to lift each of the 24m post tensioned beams which weigh 30 tons each. The two outer beams will be more robust weighing in at 90 tons and are currently being fabricated.
For low maintenance the bridge will have no bearings or expansion joints and the beams will be cast into the abutments forming a monolithic structure.
