VertAx adds major Civil Engineering Group to its Project Team
VertAx Wind Limited, a privately owned British company, announced today at an event hosted by The Concrete Centre, that it has expanded its engineering development team by inclusion of BAM Nuttall, also of the UK, one of Europe’s major civil engineering contractors, in developing and fabricating its vertical axis 10 MW offshore wind turbine generator.
BAM Nuttall will play a vital role within the VertAx team in developing and fabricating an economic concrete support tower and associated foundation for this multi-megawatt machine in the marine environments of the United Kingdom and Europe. BAM Nuttall will also provide all of the on-shore and near-shore facilitation works that will be required in the construction and assembly of this new wind turbine generator.
'VertAx is extremely pleased to have BAM Nuttall as a member of our project development team,' said Peter Hunter, VertAx’ Chairman. 'They join a group of world class experts working on this engineering development who include:
• Converteam – Electrical generation
• Gifford – Structural design
• Slingsby Composites – Blade development
• Northwest Composites Centre
• SeaRoc Group – marine deployment
'VertAx is an exciting opportunity for BAM Nuttall to bring its expertise and experience to meet the unique challenges of the offshore environment and contribute to delivering the targets for offshore wind,' said David Belsham, BAM Nuttall main board director. 'VertAx has assembled an outstanding team, its plans are unique and the proposed turbine represents a very real opportunity to develop a significant UK player in the offshore wind industry.'
