Beyond Zero Week an Outstanding Success
Beyond Zero Week was designed to raise awareness of our Beyond Zero vision to all employees. The emphasis was on highlighting best practice of Beyond Zero thinking and encouraging our people to focus on health, safety and the environment issues.
As part of Beyond Zero week we ran a competition to win the coveted Beyond Zero award, which has been devised to generate examples of best practice throughout the company.
After a lengthy judging process involving written submissions and direct presentations it was decided that the Beyond Zero trophy should be shared between BAM Nuttall Plant and Special / Major Projects.
The judging team concluded that both business units were prime examples of the impact the Beyond Zero message could have throughout the workforce and beyond into the supply chain.
Our Cheshire Highways term maintenance project was also recognised and gained a runners up position. The business unit was praised by the judges as having safety and training at the top of its agenda and is run to everyone’s benefit.’
In addition to this, Scotland and Broadland Environmental Services (BESL) both received a Highly Commended award for their creditable efforts towards Beyond Zero.
Throughout the company many of our employees were involved in a large number of initiatives to demonstrate best practice on health, safety and environmental matters.
Our Kings Cross project team was offered the opportunity of winning a track experience in the all electric Tesla Roadster. This prize was awarded to the winners of an environmental quiz.
Another example of Beyond Zero week in practice was seen by the Luton Dunstable Busway team who walked the 10km route along the disused railway track which will become the new busway route. The walk provided an opportunity for staff to familiarize themselves with the site and promote a health and fitness message.
Many sites took Beyond Zero week as an opportunity to show their charitable sides. Our plant depot at Allbrook managed to raise a staggering £420 for their local pre-school, Hilltops. This money allowed the school to buy a variety of toys for the children. The school was extremely appreciative of the donation and presented the team with a card and cake made by the children.
Beyond Zero Week was seen in action throughout all the sites and offices with a vast number of people participating. Many offices took part in lunch time walks and healthy eating whilst others encouraged people to think about the way they in which they travelled to work, swapping the car for a bike.
All in all Beyond Zero Week was an outstanding success with participation from all employees the length and the breadth of the UK.
