Sir Robert Horton Safety Award 2010

BAM Nuttall is constantly working to improve safety within the company, involving all staff with their initiatives such as ‘Don’t walk by,’ and ‘Beyond Zero.’

2009 saw more than 60 projects that were successfully delivered under Network Rail’s Southern Civils Framework Agreement.

BAM Nuttall has an impressive approach to safety performance with £138m of work delivered over four years (2.7 million hours worked) without a reportable injury.

The company’s performance led to an invite onto Network Rail’s safety leadership group, as a representative of the building and civil engineering contractors working for NR.

In a means to ensure staff understand the importance of safety, BAM Nuttall have instigated a ‘Stop Work’ day in which all staff stop work and are questioned about safety plans and procedures. Additionally, training was given to staff performing safety briefings to guarantee improvement in deliverance.

The ‘Beyond Zero’ campaign has been pushed down to its subcontractors, offering a six-monthly public award for those who have done most to promote the company’s vision.

BAM Nuttall is convinced of its ability to change attitudes to safety and as a result prevent accidents. The company will continue to strive towards making ‘zero incident working’ possible.
