(L-R) Site Agent, Dale Roberts and Planner, John Cheval, reunite the students with their group leader

On Monday 4th July, our team at Ystradfellte Reservoir rescued seven students lost on the Brecon Beacons.

A team of young walkers had been completing a difficult route in pursuit of their Duke of Edinburgh Award when the weather closed in. Disorientated in the Welsh hill fog; they were cold, wet and exhausted. The 6th formers from Teddington High School, unfamiliar with the challenging terrain, had wandered some 4km off the path before they found the BAM Nuttall compound.

Our team gave them shelter and hot drinks, while they used the site satellite telephone to contact their group leader. Such is the remoteness of the site that even with the benefits of this modern technology it still took over an hour, and Foreman, Rhodri Llewellyn, had to escort the rescue van from its base.
