Our Performance

The average age of employees in BAM Nuttall during 2008 was around 41 years old. This has been rising over recent years and we have been taking positive action to seek to attract younger workers, including the promotion of our apprenticeship scheme and our graduate development programme.

As is typical for our industry, the majority of women employed are office based, with site workers predominantly being men. We seek actively to encourage women to become engineers and quantity surveyors, and aim to show this face of BAM Nuttall in all of our promotional materials. In addition, our Student Liaison Officer is female, and has a strong brief to seek to attract women into the company.

92% of our workforce is white British, with 8% being from other ethnic groups. There is progress to be made in our aim to achieve a profile that reflects the UK population overall (86% white British according to the 2001 census). Nevertheless, we believe we have a healthy starting point in terms of the numbers we currently have, and the culture of diversity and tolerance we have aimed to create within the business.

As you would expect, there is a higher density of different ethnic groups in London and the South East, which reflects the profile for the country.
