Health and safety

BAM Nuttall aims to achieve the highest standards of health and safety for all people who enter premises or working sites under its control.

To move towards such a target, we aim not only to put in place well-devised policies and procedures, but also to create a strong health and safety culture amongst our people. Within such a strong culture, individuals take responsibility for making sure that possible hazards are dealt with immediately.

We train, encourage and support our people - staff and subcontractors - to do things the right way and never to take short cuts or accept an unsafe working environment.

In particular, we promote a 'Don't walk by' message. Colleagues are trained not to ignore any unsafe situations that they observe, or indeed to overlook or ignore any unsafe practices they may observe carried out by other colleagues.

This culture also includes being scrupulous about reporting any health and safety incidents. These are noted along with 'near-miss' events that did not result in an injury.

Ultimately, BAM Nuttall aims to go 'Beyond Zero' by not only achieving zero accidents, but promoting a positively healthy workforce where the well being of employees is enhanced by their involvement with the company.
