Environmental Incidents

BAM Nuttall aims to undertake its work with zero harm to the environment. One part of this is the need to avoid incidents that cause pollution. Such incidents happen when safe handling practices are not followed or risk management has been faulty.

During 2009, When an incident does take place, it is categorised as either major, minor, or a near miss.

Over recent years, we have put in place an extensive programme to reduce incidents. This includes a major boost to environmental training, with 857 employees trained last year building on the major push we had in 2008 with over 1,000 trained. Previously numbers trained were around 200-300.

The number of environmental specialists on site has been increased, and sites are inspected and audited more frequently and with greater rigour.
