Sustainability report | Environment | Reducing Waste

Reducing Waste

Our aim is to reduce the amount of waste produced from our construction sites, and, in particular, to prevent waste from going to landfill.

Construction typically generates huge amounts of waste. This can be reduced by careful planning. For instance, earth dug from foundations for a building or bridge may be re-used in landscaping features.

This often depends on the work specification provided by clients, and we seek to encourage clients to take this into account. Around 90% of our waste comes from excavation and 9% from demolition - both client-driven and dependent on the nature of the projects we are asked to carry out.

The waste produced specifically by BAM Nuttall includes timber, packaging, canteen and office waste. It makes up the remaining 1% of the total.
