At BAM, we’re always on the lookout for new talent. We believe that providing opportunities for people in the early stages of their career is key to the future success of our business.
Whether you’re looking for opportunities as an Apprentice, Undergraduate, Graduate, or want to try work experience with us, we offer outstanding options.
We directly employee our workforce and will invest in you to reach your full potential in your chosen career. Whether you’re a site operative and want to become a general foreman, or a section engineer and want to become a site agent, we offer several externally recognised programmes.
Our internal Supervisory Training Programme (STP) is delivered to around 40 of our gangers, foremen and supervisors each year and is listed on the Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF). You can undertake this programme if you have sufficient site experience at operative level or similar, are carrying out the role of supervisor or you’re being considered for future promotion to supervisor on site.
The programme is made up of 14 modules, all of which can be certified individually, or after completion of all 14, is recognised with a SCQF Level 6 Certificate in Civil Engineering Supervision. After completing the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to gain further ILM and VQ qualifications.
We offer this programme to newly recruited managers who need a full induction to the role. The programme covers the core management skills required for all of our management roles. If you’re an existing manager you’ll also be offered the opportunity to attend either the entire course or individual modules as required. This programme is also recognised with SCQF Level 7 Diploma in Managing People in Construction.
Since launching our Vocational Qualification centre in 2000, we’ve delivered over 8000 VQs to our employees and over 2700 VQs to our supply chain partners. Our specialist assessors are all employees in our business and deliver around 350 vocational qualifications each year. We have accreditation for all civil engineering occupations and qualification routes from level 2 to level 6, suitable for our people and supply chain.
We use these internal resources to help support and develop you through the recognised industry competence schemes and qualification routes, including helping you to gain and maintain CSCS cards.
